Isle of MTV 2016, Malta
For the last ten years, Malta has been playing host to the huge free one day festival the Isle of MTV. With a superstar line-up in fantastic settings, find out just why you should be heading to this fun festival right here!
We already mentioned it above, but we’ll mention it again; the festival is FREE! That’s’ right you could be there with 50,000 other fans enjoying world-class artists. No tickets are required, and there is no age restriction, although there are designated 17+ areas where you can purchase alcohol. With extra buses laid on, this festival couldn’t be easier to get to, which leads us onto its next bonus.
Its location is amazing! Malta is of course a beautiful sun-soaked southern Mediterranean island, so the setting was always going to be good for an outdoor festival. The event takes place at the Granaries, which is a venue, located in the town of Floriana just a couple of kilometres from the capital Valletta in the south-east of the island. Floriana is a lovely historical fortified town and only a 15 minute drive from Malta International Airport too! Although the event has been held since 2002, it wasn’t until 2007 it came to Malta, and it’s been there ever since.
And finally onto the acts, which is obviously the whole point of the festival! The Granaries has witnessed some of the world’s top music acts take to its stage over the years, giving locals and holiday makers alike a chance to see performers live. Previous acts to have headlined at the event include Nellie Furtado, Enrique Iglesias, Martin Garrix and Lady Gaga, and this year’s line-up is set to be a great one, with Steve Aoki, Jess Glynne and Wiz Khalifa all set to perform in front of a packed crowd.
Running from 6-11.30pm on Tuesday 28th June, there are bars and food stalls serving so that you can enjoy incredible music as the sun goes down. This incredible event gives you the perfect excuse to visit the island, even if you are on a budget! Find out more about Isle of MTV from http://www.chevron.co.uk/blog/isle-of-mtv-in-malta/
